Sparked’s Holiday Week of Rest: December 25, 2023 – January 1, 2024
The 2023 holiday season is fast approaching, and that means
March 8, 2023 – Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re pleased to announce that Karina Barker, Sparked’s President & Co-Founder, has joined The Forum as a volunteer Mentor. The Forum is a Canadian charity that helps women entrepreneurs access the resources and community they need to thrive in business.
Karina’s mentoring role began earlier this month and runs for one year. She’s been matched with two female founders of a Toronto-based business, and she’ll be providing support on copywriting and marketing strategy and sharing her own experiences as an entrepreneur.
Karina brings previous experience to this role, serving as an Expert-in-Residence (EiR) at the DMZ, a leading Canadian startup incubator, from 2021-2022. She also coaches up-and-coming copywriters.
At Sparked, giving back to our community is part of our DNA, so we’re proud to continue this through Karina’s volunteer mentorship work.
Since 2002, The Forum has supported over 10,000 women entrepreneurs, pairing them with leaders in various fields and supporting them so they can thrive. The Forum also offers educational programs and an intentional collaborative community.
The Forum’s Mentor Program is presented by Scotiabank’s Women Initiative and pairs women entrepreneurs with mentors in their field, helping mentees and their businesses in tangible ways.
Karina is the Co-Founder, President and Head of Content at Sparked Digital Inc. A copywriter and content strategist by training, she has expertise in brand positioning, website copywriting, conversion copywriting and content marketing.
For over 18 years, Karina’s career has focused on finding ways to communicate with impact. Over the years, she’s worked as a communications and policy advisor in the public sector, a communications manager in the private sector and a freelance copywriter, before founding Sparked Digital Inc with Anthony Ramsundar in 2019.
Karina served as an Expert-in-Residence (EiR) at the DMZ, an globally-recognized tech incubator, and she’s instructed copywriting at George Brown College. Her work has been published in print and online in notable places like Forbes, and she’s written for more than 70 SMEs, startups and Fortune 500 companies. She also coaches up-and-coming copywriters and provides mentorship to women entrepreneurs through The Forum.
Karina believes the recipe for successful copy includes in-depth audience research, a high level of empathy and the use of clear, concise, accessible language.
