Last week, we had the pleasure of attending Enterprise Cayman’s Tech Talk, The Rise of Cayman’s Digital Art Scene.
Rafael B. Elias attended from our team, and had a great time learning about this art form and meeting the artists and panelists Shane Aquart, William Helfrecht, Michael Mothen and Kaitlyn Elphinstone.
Our key takeaways included:
- Digital art is at the intersection of technology and creativity, and it’s shaping the future of art making and collecting in the Cayman Islands and beyond.
- Digital artists are using a wide range of tools including Fresco, Illustrator, After-Effects, Adobe Animate and hand drawing.
- Digital art has been on the rise for the past 15 years, but the popularity of NFTs in 2020 and beyond propelled it forward, since NFTs make each piece of digital art unique.
- Protecting IP rights of art and artists can be challenging, but NFTs help this.
- With NFTs, the artist gets a residual payment even on subsequent aftermarket sale of the art.
- Artists are collaborating with Cayman brands to add local flair, such as Dready with Car City.
- Digital art is still in its infancy and there is so much potential ahead.
Thank you to Enterprise Cayman for putting on such a great event!
