About the Client
Museum of Toronto is Toronto’s City Museum that curates, houses, and showcases many collections from Toronto’s rich history. As a nonprofit with a vision to continue inspiring curiosity and sharing stories, Museum of Toronto fosters deeper relationships between the places and people that shape it. Visitors can enjoy programming in their downtown exhibition space, throughout the city, and online.

The Challenge
When Museum of Toronto was referred to Sparked in 2023, they were dealing with a frustrating situation: their legacy website had been pieced together across various domains and content management systems. As a result, it was difficult for users to navigate and even more difficult for their team to manage. With a rebrand underway, they knew it was time to address their website and rebuild it from the ground up.

The Solution
Because their legacy website had grown so complex, the decision was made to start afresh in a new environment. After carefully documenting the content that would be carried over and preparing a comprehensive redirect strategy, Sparked’s creative team got to work.
The first thing tackled was the website architecture. We considered what information users would be looking for and how best to organize it for search and discoverability. From there, our copywriter got to work, breathing fresh life into the words. Our designer then produced two design concepts for consideration, followed by design prototypes for all pages using the chosen concept.
When it came time for development, our developers used the latest WordPress technology to produce a high-performing, fully-responsive, accessibility-compliant, CRM-integrated, donation-enabled, and well-coded website that would delight users and empower Museum of Toronto’s team to easily manage the website post-launch.

The Results
The project resulted in a well-received website, helping Museum of Toronto move into their next phase of evolution. This website was recognized internationally as the recipient of a Web Excellence Award.
